World Tourism Day

World Tourism Organization celebrates ‘WORLD TOURISM DAY’ on 27th September of every year since 1980. This date was chosen to celebrate the anniversary of the Statutes of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which was adopted in 27th September 1970. The main purpose of this day is to create awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and its affect on social, cultural, political and economic values.

Generally this is not a public holiday. It is a very special day for many tourism enterprises and organizations, government agencies with a special interest in tourism as well as people working in tourism sectors. They celebrate this event by conducting  various types of special events, offering special discounts on tour etc.

World Tourism Day (WTD) is celebrated by events around the themes selected by the UNWTO General Assembly, on the recommendation of the UNWTO Executive Council. Each year this day was celebrated with a different theme.
